Each village in Chiapas has its own peculiar history and a unique way of reflecting it through its embroidery. The town of Zinacantan, located in the highlands of Chiapas, is no different. Thus, like other Zinacantan embroideries, the main motif they represent is the flower with geometric embroidery.

These cotton cushion covers from Zinacantan are made of cotton using a backstrap loom. First, the cotton thread is dyed in different colours. Then the threads are soaked in corn juice to give them greater consistency and hardness. The craftswomen, using the backstrap loom, weave these decorative cushions by inserting threads of different colours to create the flower patterns that are depicted.

The symbol represented in these decorative cushions are flowers. This is because the main activity in Zinacantan is the cultivation of greenhouse flowers. In this way, flowers are represented in all the embroidery, as they do in their embroidered quilts as well.

All the workmanship is done by hand. In this way, each piece is made with the love and knowledge of the craftswoman who created it.

Each of these decorative cushions measures approximately 45×45 centimetres and weighs 110 grams. On the back of the cushion there is an opening to insert the cushion filling, closing like a flap.
